Stabroek Square 1964
Stabroek Square as shown is dominated by the Stabroek Market or "de Big Market" as locally known. This imposing structure was opened in November 1881 and extends back to the Demerara River, where boats can deliver produce directly to the market. The Square was a focal point for road and river communication, having the main bus terminal and the Ferry Stelling located around it, thus was always a hive of colourful activity. |
